Daydreaming of 2018
Provided that M and I survive 2017 and everything it's throwing at us, then 2018 is going to be the Year of Doing Stuff. All that sitting at home and doing nothing while we save money is going to calm down a bit since we won't have to put away every spare cent, so we can afford to do some traveling and some local cons and such.
This list is mainly for my own reference and for daydreaming of stuff (and because planning is fun), and I certainly won't be able to do all of it, but in as much a chronological order as I can manage:
Francaise Dinner
- either brown en fourreau dress or burgundy robe paree
- Red embroidered suit for M
Versaille Ball in Paris
- burgundy robe paree
- teal embroidered suit
Costume College
- Poolside Party: TBD
- Friday hallway costume: TBD
- Friday Night Social: Titanic movie costume
- Saturday hallway costume: TBD
- Saturday dinner & Gala: TBD
- Sunday breakfast: TBD
- Sunday tea: TBD
Star Trek Las Vegas
- Cardassian civilian
- Vedek Winn (because the hat!)
- TNG Skant
- Dr. Who Silurian in Starfleet Uniform
Fan Days Dallas
- Cardassian civilian or Silurian
That's roughly one big event every two months. Not too terrible, right?
Doing CoCo and STLV will be a feat since they're usually only a few days apart. This year, Coco wraps up on Sunday and STLV starts on Wednesday. Next year's dates aren't up yet, but if they're similar, I don't know if that's doable with work. There are some years that the two events run the same weekend, which would mean I'd have to choose which to attend. :(
Starting August 1, I have about 8 months to get down to my goal weight, which will be difficult, but if I actually stick to it and bother to do any exercise, I think I can do it. The only thing I'm worried about is having to wait to do my final fittings until the events are much closer than I'd like.
Once we are settled into our own house, I need to sew like the wind. Everything on the list is new, or needs new parts. I need to cast new prosthetics for my Cardassian looks, and while I have Cardassian clothes already, I want new ones. It will be fun to design an original look again! Vedek Winn has that awesome Sydney Opera House hat, which has put it on my wish list for a long time, but the costume is deceptively complicated, so I'll need to allow plenty of time to source fabrics (I get a little anal about screen accuracy) and deal with all the fiddly layers and bits. Ever since I saw the Silurians in Dr. Who, I've wanted to cosplay one in Starfleet, so that's on the list for STLV, too, but I may need to sculpt an entirely new cowl for it. I'll have to see how the initial pull goes from my original cast. But I think a green alien in the red Wrath of Khan uniform would look really smashing!
CoCo planning is still up in the air since there's no word on next year's theme yet. (I really hope it's better than this years, because I think the 1960s are a total snooze fest.) I do have the Titanic costume on the list because a few of us on Facebook were already talking about it for the social next year, and I'm excited to finally have a real excuse to make one of those dresses! Now to just choose one. I'd love to do one of the lesser known gowns, like the elevator dress, the deck dress, or the green tea dress, but the pull of the dinner gown is strong.
The Francaise Dinner and the Versailles Ball are the only two events I definitely know what I want to sew. M's new suits should be finished by then, and I have those amazing taffeta saris that I picked up to make something new and sparkly, I just need to figure out a good design to highlight the sari embroidery in the best way I can. The brown en forreau gown will be the only thing I'll have finished fairly soon, since I plan to have it ready for Casanova in September, I just need to get my butt in gear and start whipping out the fly fringe for it. I'm planning M's red suit to be done by then, too, but time is quickly winding down and I haven't even finished his shirt, let alone draped his coat. Blah. This summer has managed to both drag on horribly and whiz by way too quickly.
