Well, nothing went quite to plan yesterday. Left work around 2 and went to pick up our pizzas, but they had somehow lost the order, so had to wait for them to make it up for us. Not a huge deal, but I wanted to be home. But, I did get a great deal on the pizza and snagged both larges for a total of $10, which made me very happy.

Once I was home, M said that the baby had had a marathon nap and that he'd managed to get all his work done for the entire week, which was a relief to us both. I had gone home with the intention of doing work around the house to catch up, but I didn't end up doing it.

Instead I spent time with the baby, who was in a great mood, and I spent some time fitting the mockup of the 1830s surplice bodice. I was pretty happy with how it had turned out, too, except that the front was a tad too long, and it was just a smidge too large. I have a second version of the pattern now, and another mockup will soon commence.

Unfortunately, as well as the afternoon was going, it soon went sideways. M got a message from his manager announcing that she was pregnant and would be going on maternity leave in a few months. She'd waited until she was 5 months along to tell anyone, so her leave is going to come up pretty soon. It sent M into a stress spiral as he catastrophized about it, thinking that he's going to be given part of her duties while she's gone (there is no other manager because the bank has been slashing personnel and didn't think they needed two managers for the department) and saying things like now he has to find a new job before she goes on leave. He ranted for nearly 2 hours after the baby had gone to bed. I was exhausted by the end of it and fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.

Alarm this morning jolted me awake, and I felt like I hadn't gotten any rest at all. I need to stop letting M keep me awake so late, it really destroys me not to get enough sleep.

Drafted out the surplice bodice for the 1830s dress yesterday. It looks great on paper, but a mockup will reveal how well I actually did. I felt very competent making the pattern, which was nice because I've been feeling absolutely the opposite lately. The boning order for the stays is supposed to arrive on Friday, so once the stays are actually finished, hopefully over the weekend, I can do a mockup of the bodice and see if my confidence was justified.

Baby went to bed early, so I had a chance to work on the stays a bit in the evening. The top edges of both sides are now bound and looking very neat and tidy.

Watched In a Violent Nature, a mostly first-person POV slasher film. Little to no music, pretty scenery and cinematography, insane kills. It's a strange little film, but I recommend it if you like atmospheric horror, even with the absolutely abysmal acting from the main cast (since they're not the focus and are mostly encountered as conversations happening in the background, it's a bit easier to overlook). Just don't go in expecting a typical slasher, because you will not be getting it. Crimson Peak autoplayed after it, so I guess the universe (or Amazon, whichever) thought I needed a dose of Tom Hiddleston looking gothic and broody, which yeah, always, thank you.

Unfortunately, because the baby went to bed so early, she was up at 3:30, wide awake and ready to rumble. It took hours to get her back to sleep. I reset my alarm for as late I could push it, but I'm absolutely exhausted this morning. Thank goodness there's enough stew left for one more dinner, because cooking tonight would be hell.

There's only two months left before Dickens, so I absolutely have to get back to the ruffle monster after this weekend. I'm going to try and keep the 1830s dress as a work downtime project, since it's small enough to be portable, and then work on the ruffle monster in the evenings at home and on the weekends. There's so much to do, what was I thinking with all this floof. At this point, the ruffle monster may be the only dress that gets done in time for the trip. As long as I'm able to squeeze out an evening bodice for it, then I'm okay with that.

Remember when I said M was coming down with something? Well, he shared it with the whole family, and all three of us were sick over the weekend. I was fine on Friday until just after dinner, when I suddenly felt immense sinus pressure and started to get sniffly. Saturday morning I was fully sick and miserable.

Spent most of the weekend hanging out on the couch. Baby was also sick, so it was mostly just the two of us in a nest of blankets and kleenex. M slept for a thousand years, then got up in the afternoon and went out to do car stuff. Discovered that the parts needed are nearly double the price in store than they are online, so repairs are delayed until the parts can come in the mail.

I did manage to attach the bias ruffle to the 1830s skirt, even though it took me two days to do it. Between being wretched myself and the baby barely napping because she felt bad, I hardly had any free time. But, it is attached now, so hooray!

At work today because I only have 6 hours of sick time available, boo.

The dress for next year's Red color themed tea is starting to take shape in my mind, and as I was browsing etsy I came across the perfect fabric for a part of it, so I bought all their remaining yardage. It was only 6 yards, but it's 60" wide, and I'm only using it for part of the underskirt, so I think it'll be fine. Definitely not jumping on that project just yet, but I had to snatch that fabric up while it was still there. (Though, curiously they now seem to have an additional 12 yards, when it said "sold out" when I bought it. Guess they dug up some more.)

It's really starting to feel like actual Fall here, and the weather has been gorgeous. Cool, on and off rainy, and just altogether fabulous. So glad summer decided to actually end once August was over instead of hanging around forever. Apple cinnamon candles have been purchased, pumpkin things will be in the works next weekend.

M napped again as soon as I got home last night. I ate leftover pizza and watched the kid. M woke back up just as I was putting the baby to bed, which of course made her wake back up again, so we all hung out on the couch for about an hour while she tuckered herself back out. Once she was down, we gathered up all our clothes and M left to do laundry into the wee hours.

With the house finally quiet, I was able to get some sewing done. Cut out the tarletan and the cotton hem facing, and finished the hem on the 1830s skirt. I'm extremely pleased with how it looks, so clean! All that remains is to attach the bias ruffle, which I will attempt to do tonight. Also, the grosgrain petticoat is a wonder, so much volume! I hate that it was such a nightmare to make because the silhouette is fantastic and I want more of them.

Came across a reproduction print that would make a lovely wrapper, but it was weirdly only sold in 5cm increments. Is this an EU quilt shop thing? Because weird.

Decided that this weekend I'm going to starch the corded petticoat using regular old corn starch. If I dawdle too long, I may never get around to it, so I just need to do it. Still need to finish the stays. I think I have a little too much on my plate, because I'm starting to lose focus on what needs to be worked on first.

What actually does need to done first is the stays. Then the tunic with points. I have just about 2 1/2 weeks until the event, which is a squeeze. And here I thought I started well enough in advance to do everything in time, but I'm starting to feel crunched. But, if I can finish the 1830s skirt after work tonight and tomorrow, then this weekend I can just focus on the getting the stays done without the skirt looming at me from across the room.
