Jan. 23rd, 2023 08:24 amBusy weekend. M had a job interview on Friday with Bank of the Ozarks, which went weirdly. The recruiter had said the position was fully remote, which it absolutely was not. Part of the reason the pay was so high was because they are trying to entice people away from bigger banks and come into the office to work for them. It also was going to be 1000% more work than he's currently doing, since they're just starting to set up their ABL department and he'd have to cover a bunch of different roles. So he said no thanks.
Saturday we had our big cleaning day that we didn't have last weekend. M reorganized everything stored in the office closet, we bought new storage and shelving at Ikea, and things were thrown out that we didn't need or couldn't identify. I sorted through all the sewing stuff in the living room, took some fabric that I'm not using back to storage, and tidied up what I kept at home so I could get a better sense of what UFOs I had.
Currently in the UFO basket - aqua 1890s petticoat, rose 1890s petticoat, Regency stays, 1872 corset, 1906 corset, blue and orange 1850s dress, Anna Karenina brown striped natural form dress, 1590s waistcoat, and 1590s petticoat. Yeesh. The aqua petticoat, 1872 corset, and 1906 corset are the closest to being finished. The rest practically are unstarted, I just managed some patterning stuff and cutting out a bit or bob for them. I'm going to try and work through that basket this year and get everything cleared out.
Liz and I had lunch on Sunday. We attempted to get sushi, but every place in Fort Worth seemed to be closed on Sunday, so we settled for tacos at Rosas instead, which is sort of our standby. We went afterward for a cup of tea at La Madeleine. Neither of us have had much sewing mojo this past year, and we discussed hosting events again to get ourselves motivated to make things again. The DFWCG has sort of disintegrated, so the one entity that was hosting historical costume events in this area is pretty much gone. So, we are planning a few things for the fall/winter that hopefully can get us and others something to look forward to. Liz has been wanting to do a "Purple People Eater" party, which is purple themed and vampire/monster themed, which I think will be super fun. Georgian Picnic always happens the second weekend of November, so that's a given. Then we'll probably do something in December since there's always a ton of stuff happening around town.
In case you missed the news, Aranea Black shut down her website, took down all her corset patterns and tutorials, and deleted all the videos on her YouTube channel. No one can really find out why. Her patterns were excellent, so people online have been compiling them and sharing. Here's the link to my online folder with all her patterns in case anyone wants it.
