Mar. 13th, 2023 09:15 amWeekend was full of sewing. The 1902 bumpad took forever to finish, and it ate up all of Friday night and the majority of Saturday. Yeesh. Who knew that tufting took so long? But it's done now, and the combo of it and the corset give me a BADONK. I tried on my Edwardian petticoat and lingerie dress skirt over it, and the whole look was very va-va-voom.
Saturday night I futzed with the foundation skirt some more, then Sunday was dedicated to fixing the length and adding the train. I ended up cutting out entirely new skirt pieces for the foundation skirt, which was stupid, augh, I should have just cut out the additional length I needed for each panel, because now I may not have enough fabric left for the ruffle I need. ~sigh~ I unrolled the fabric off the bolt to cut the final new skirt panel only to be surprised with only a yard left on the bolt. So, I used the previous skirt panel and added the length it needed with some scraps that I pieced on.
I'm fairly happy with how it's looking, but I also feel like there may be too much volume at the sides of the skirt and not enough at the back hem. It does that little fold thing that skirts do when trains are too long for their width and don't want to lay flat. I may take the volume out of the side of the skirt and move it to the back as a gore insert. I'm so tired of messing with this foundation skirt, though, I feel like I've been treading water on this project because of all the adjustments I've needed to do.
I'm starting to worry I won't have the suit done in time for the tea, so my backup plan will be to wear the lingerie gown with some orange accessories. I've been meaning to make a dip-waist belt for that dress anyway, and I can do that in an afternoon if at the end it doesn't look like the suit will be done. I still have a month, so that's just a last resort.
Anyway, there is a stray tuxedo cat who hangs around sometimes, and he was getting up to things with a lady cat that lives upstairs, but I guess she ran off and went home because he sat at the bottom of the staircase and warbled at her all day on Sunday. I gave him a pile of cat food, and he would eat and yodel at the same time, which was hilarious because his mouth would be full while he was howling. He was still singing love songs this morning when I went to work. She's just not that into you, dude.
The time change has kicked my ass, as it does every year. Will take it easy tonight and just spend some time cleaning the kitchen and making dinner. I'm too tired and I know I will make mistakes if I try and sew in this state.
