Aug. 28th, 2023 08:55 amI feel like a broken record at this point, but the weekend did not go entirely as planned.
M went to his shindig on Friday night, which he said was fantastic. He got back home around 1AM, when he informs me that the air conditioner in the Toyota has gone out. -_- At this point I feel like banning him from using the car, because he always comes back with some malfunction lately. We now have two cars with no air conditioning.
So, since there was no air, I cancelled my trip to Dallas. It's two hours round-trip and I cannot do that without cool air. I still went to get my bloodwork done, because that was unavoidable, but I went as early as possible to beat the heat, which by the time they opened at 8AM was in the mid-80s, but still bearable.
Since they were testing for gestational diabetes, they had me drink a bottle of sugar water on an empty stomach, wait in the lobby for an hour, and then they did the draw. Because they were testing for multiple things, they drew four vials of blood, which made me extremely woozy. I skipped the grocery shopping I was thinking of doing after the appointment so I could go home directly and rest.
I decided to try the breakfast casserole I've been eyeing for the past week or so - tater tots/hash browns on the bottom, then a mixture of eggs, milk, breakfast sausage, bacon, green onions, and cheese get poured over it and baked for an hour. It was tasty, but not mind-blowing, especially for all the work involved - the tots, bacon, and sausage have to be cooked beforehand, there's a lot of chopping and grating, and all that took an hour even before the casserole went in the oven for another hour. For all that work, I'd rather just make everything on its own and eat an hour earlier.
I still felt drained the rest of the day from my earlier vampire appointment, so I just relaxed for the rest of the afternoon. M left mid-afternoon to get the car evaluated. Turns out that it's not an easy fix, as we had hoped (we thought maybe the new alternator had blown out our old fuses), but instead it appears to be a burnt out coil in the compressor, which is a much bigger job. The shop that did the eval quoted us $1500 for the repair, which, no. M's going to figure out how to do it himself, even though he's never replaced a compressor before.
I spent Sunday hand-sewing on the couch, which was lovely. A cool front moved in and made the day somewhat dark and rainy, so I opened up the curtains to be able to enjoy the ambience, which the cats greatly appreciated. I managed to outline the swirly-dos on one front skirt panel and to start the embroidery/couching, which took longer than expected. But, I'm quite pleased with how it's looking!
That little flower was sooo fiddly, and they're all over the original skirt, so this embroidery is going to take a while. I've given myself a loooong deadline of having this done by next Fall, so I'm in no rush and can dedicate the time it needs to it.
Made a batch of cinnamon rolls mid-afternoon as a snack, then made a big pot of chicken stew for dinner with the last of our vegetables. I unearthed even more chicken thighs in the freezer, so even though three pounds went into the soup, there's another three pounds that appeared in the freezer, so I'm at a net zero of chicken thigh usage.
But with the rain, the sewing, the smell of warm cinnamon rolls, the general gloominess of the day, and the warm pot of stew, it was a very cozy day, and I felt very content.
Slept terribly, which I think is going to be a trend going forward. I sleep most comfortably on my left side, which the fetus has very strong opinions about. As soon as I lay on my left side I end up getting kicked to death. She kicks so hard I can't fall asleep. If I do manage to fall asleep, she kicks me awake. So, I roll onto my right side, which she doesn't seem to object to. But my hip hurts if I lay on my right side, so it's not as comfortable. I can't lay on my back because there's so much pressure on my lungs from my uterus that I can't breathe well. So, sleep is tough. I'm going to have to start going to bed earlier because of all the interruptions from within that are happening now.
