Was intensely bored at work yesterday, so I spent a bit of time searching De Gracieuse for a winter dolman pattern in the natural form years. Found and pulled a pattern for "Mantelet of Indian Cashmere" from 1878. I have an idea of a black wool mantle with faux astrakhan trim and bullion fringe. I don't know if I'll actually get around to making it anytime soon, but hey, at least I have the pattern now.

Ordered volume 2 of Fashions of the Gilded Age. Since it's impossible to find volume 1 at a reasonable price, I figured I should probably buy volume 2 before the same happened to it.

Decided that I didn't want the planned chicken alfredo for dinner, so I picked up burger fixings and made burgers for dinner instead, which M was very excited about.

The liquid starch I ordered from Amazon arrived yesterday and was yet another disaster in the unending saga of the cursed corded petticoat. The bottle had obviously been re-shrink wrapped by the seller, and it turned out the bottle was unsealed, opened, and about half empty. I had already overpaid for this stupid bottle, so I initiated a refund. Now I have to drop off the stupid thing at the nearest Whole Foods and they'll do the packaging and shipping for me.

Intensely annoyed at the petticoat, I gave it a vigorous scrubbing with whitening detergent once the baby was in bed. That seems to have finally done the trick, and the last of the yellow residue seems to gone at last. It's drip drying in the bathroom. Again. M offered to drive to the one store in the area that still carries liquid starch (the HEB in Burleson which is about 20 minutes from home) which I took him up on. His excursion will be after I get home tonight.

They've issued a "dangerous heat advisory" for the next few days, which means heat indexes over 105, which confirmed that I made the right decision to skip the event on Saturday. Weekend plans instead are to finish the 1830s stays, starch the corded petticoat, and get the 1830s bodice mocked up. I figure that I can take the actual bodice to work with me and do some hand-sewing on it when I have time. I get so little done when I'm at home that I need to find some way to squeeze in sewing time somewhere.
