Oct. 24th, 2024 09:42 amThe repairs to the Honda (brake job) were finished yesterday, so once I was home, M headed out to go and pick it up. I stayed home with baby and ate leftover pizza. I managed to get a little bit of sewing done - the base for the last ruffle section is now assembled and hemmed, and I managed about a quarter of the hemming on the first ruffle strip before it was time for the baby's bedtime routine. She dozed off on my lap around 7, but woke up immediately once I tried to put her in her crib, so we sat on the couch for another couple of hours, where she was content to just sit on my lap and babble while pretending she wasn't tired.
M came home not long after she'd gone to sleep. He was very excited about the car, and he showed off all the special features, like the dent, the working AC, the cigarette smell, and a center console full of the previous owner's psych meds (empty bottles.) Good job on the cleanup, Carmax. We took a short drive up the street and back, and it seems to handle just fine, so now we have a backup car, and a car with an AC for when we need to take the baby somewhere. M seems firmly convinced that the car will not survive long trips, so it's just a car for scooting around town.
M was so jazzed about the car (his first car was a '96 Honda, so there's a lot of nostalgia) that he kept me up chatting way past my bedtime. I'm dragging fiercely today, and so will do as little as possible.
Ordered one of the OOP Simplicity Civil War patterns that has pretty much the exact evening bodice that I want to make for the second Dickens dress. I can just squeeze into the largest size according to their finished measurements (thank goodness for the insane amounts of ease in Big 3 patterns), so fingers crossed I won't need to make significant alterations.
Took another look at the Kent State dress, and I think it will go together pretty quickly. The TV bodice pattern I just bought will work well for it, and I won't have to mock it up again after I'm finished doing that for the ruffle monster's bodice. The skirt is dead simple, and I should be able to put that together in a single day. I'm feeling very optimistic about this.
