Had an absolutely massive storm roll in last night. We had been expecting a "widespread rain event" as they call them, but didn't expect the severity. We had some damaging winds and a bit of hail, as well as an absolutely torrential downpour that lead to some flash flooding. I got the weather alert with just enough time to repark the car under shelter and to warn M, who was out with friends, so he could hunker down where he was and not get caught in it.

While I was out on the porch watching the storm, a very wet and scared schnauzer dog came and hid behind my legs. I'd never seen her before, but she clearly belonged to someone, as she went straight for the first human she saw for comfort and pawed at the apartment door to be let in.

The stray Siamese kitty also made an appearance, somehow completely dry, and sat on the porch for shelter. I put out a scoop of food for her, which she quickly devoured.

M finally made it home during a break in the rain, just before it started pouring again. We sat in bed for a while and watched a couple of episodes of The Sopranos, before I turned in and he went to take a shower. The power flickered briefly, but never went out, but half the county did lose power and are still out this morning, so we got lucky.

No damage at our place, and only leaf debris on the streets when I drove to work this morning. There was an apparent tornado to the east of us, but we got lucky in that an outflow boundary prevented any rotation in our area.

In other news, my book shipped by OSM actually arrived! It's the Reader's Digest Complete Book of Embroidery, which is actually a fantastic book. It has diagrams for every stitch you could possibly imagine. I now know where the diagram I always see for the plaited braid stitch comes from, it's this book.

The linen I ordered should arrive by tomorrow, and the slate frame shipped this morning and should be here in a few weeks. My other book was shipped from the UK and has no tracking info on it, but should be here within the next 10 days or so. And, oops, ordered another book just now!

Reader's Digest Complete Book of Embroidery, eh? *adds to list* Now that I have a (small) designated bookshelf for craft/costume books since we bought the house, it's only half full and I must fix that, you know! :D

Reader's Digest Complete Book of Embroidery

I own the Readers's Digest Complete Book of Needwork. I wonder what's the difference between them? (And yes, fabulous book, as is their Complete Guide to Sewing, which I also own.)
