This past weekend was my birthday weekend, but it really did not feel celebratory. M and I had been planning to road trip up to West Virginia since it was a long holiday weekend, but those plans were dashed when the car was wrecked, so pretty much nothing happened. I worked the day of my birthday, and then hung out with my sister after work, eating fried chicken and watching Titanic. She was the only person who got me a birthday gift, too, and she did a good job of it, buying me some shoe buckles from Fugawee. :D They look great with my blue shoes.

The rest of the weekend was a sewing storm. I wanted to get as much done on the sacque dress as possible since it's not easily portable and can't take it to work with me, so I assembled the petticoat (even thought I'm not done trimming it), cut out all the gown pieces, and started futzing with the gown itself. I cut out my first gown back too short, so I had to recut it, which cost me some time. Thankfully, I could still use the other back piece to cut out the strips for the ruched trimmings, so it didn't go to waste.
So now, the gown back is pleated and pinned while I decide whether I like the way the pleats are arranged right now. I'll probably mess with them a little bit before I'm satisfied.

I started trimming the front skirt gown panels, too. I was hoping to have the wider strip tacked down on both sides by the end of the day, but my back was killing me by 5, so I didn't push to do any more.

I do have the strips cut out for the other side, and they are serged and ready to sew together and gather, so I can get that done tomorrow after work, maybe. Tonight is a bust since M doesn't get out of class until 9 and he's my ride, and tomorrow I'm supposed to help my sister with wedding shopping after work, so I don't know how much time I'll have once I actually get home. There's only two weeks left, and I still have a ton of sewing to do, so I need to be stitching in every spare moment I have.
The trim I ordered is supposed to arrive today, so hopefully something in that selection works for the gown, because Zod help me, I am NOT ordering another batch of trim!
Also, a bit of a bummer, but my sister's bridal shower ended up being scheduled on the day of the Edwardian house tour, so I'm going to have to miss it. I'm still going to make the red and white dress, though, because it's too fabulous and I already have all the materials, I just won't have anything to wear it to for a while. Hopefully there's something Edwardian at Christmas time.
