Aug. 7th, 2023 08:39 amLunch with my sister on Saturday at the enchilada place. She's seeing a new man and is about to move in with him. She bought a Jaguar. She and new man are going to Italy in January. She's firmly in post-divorce shenanigans mode.
Came home after lunch and finished hemming another petticoat ruffle. I rediscovered my sewing machine's overlock stitch, which makes a much cleaner edge than just the zigzag, but takes three times as much thread and twice as long to sew. I timed it out and one hem - overlocking, trimming fluff, and then actual hemming - took a full hour. I really need a new serger!
Sunday morning I was awoken at 4AM by gunshots. M thinks it was just someone messing around. I think it's someone trying to keep the rent low.
Noticed I was a bit sniffly when I woke up, but put it down to allergies and went back to sleep. Then I woke up at my normal hour and it was definitely not just allergies. I deteriorated over the course of the day and am now fully in the throes of another head cold. Blech. No more sewing was done, but I did manage to tidy up and organize the sewing shelf with all my supplies on it, which was satisfying.
It was a weekend for general mayhem in our area - a train derailment with possible hazardous cargo, then a landmark historical saloon in the stockyards burned down, then grassfires, and finally the Sherwin Williams plant exploded. What a wild weekend.
