Aug. 9th, 2023 08:44 amWhile trying to get snacks out of the vending machine yesterday, my card was declined. I shrugged it off until after work, when I found a text message from my bank's fraud monitoring people that I had suspicious transactions on my account. Turns out, my number had been stolen, and someone was using it to buy cellphones in Mexico. -_- Thankfully, they caught it early, so in all they only got $70 out of my account, which the bank will be returning to me. The card was locked as soon as the fraud team saw the hinkiness, hence no snacks.
I had enough time after work to go by the nearest bank of the branch and have them make a new card for me, so unlike the last time my card was stolen, there has been minimal disruption to my normal routine.
I'm 99% sure that my card was skimmed at the gas station when I filled up the other night. I had dismissed a weird feeling about a funky looking card reader at the pump, and I shouldn't have. It was also the last transaction before the thefts started, so it all points in that direction.
Came home, and M made breakfast for dinner, which was great. We are very successfully whittling down the contents of the freezer. There are a few packages of breakfast links left (turkey sausage links that a friend gave us when he moved, not the greatest thing ever but not terrible) and a package of hatch chili bacon left. We're planning another big breakfast for the weekend so we can make the hatch bacon and the rest of the links, and then breakfast items will be taken care of.
All that remains now is about a dozen t-bone steaks, a package of pork chops, 2 pounds of ground beef, and about 7 pounds of chicken thighs, and all the old meat in the freezer will have been cleared out. So close! Plans are a large baked ziti to take care of the remaining ground beef, a large chicken stew to take care of at least half of the thighs, and M is going to experiment with the steaks to see if they're even any good or if they're too freezer burned to eat.
Slept terribly, waking every hour to a coughing fit. Meds only seemed to help somewhat. Very nearly called in so I could keep sleeping this morning, but I am really trying to save my time off to cover my FMLA leave for the birth. I'm going to try and turn in early tonight to catch up on sleep I've missed.
