Super busy, but fun, weekend! I saw people! I did things! I am completely exhausted!

I did manage to get the partlet cut out while at work on Friday. I came home, threw a pizza in the oven for dinner, and then charged right into sewing. Finished the remaining sleeve on the loose gown, therefore completing the gown entirely! I think this is my first entirely finished garment this year? Anyway, the sleeve took a while since it was almost all hand-sewing and messing with the pleating of the sleeve head.

After that I went back to the kirtle. I had to futz with the fit of the front since it was bagging out at the neckline in a very unflattering way, which turned out to be a problem at the shoulders. So once that was taken care of, I finished off the neckline, did a very dirty hem, and installed the zipper, and that was done/wearable.

Last up was the partlet, which went together pretty quickly. The fiddliest bit was the collar because the ruffle is so densely gathered, but I am incredibly happy with how it turned out.

By the time I was done with everything, it was past 1AM, so I didn't get to sleep until around 2AM. I decided to not push myself and just sleep in until I woke up on my own, since the class I was really interested didn't happen until 4pm anyway!

I think I arrived at the event around 11AM on Saturday, so I missed morning court and my friend's investiture as the new baroness. I arrived in time for a lunch of very dry chicken sandwiches, and then classes started at noon. I sat in on a discussion about hosting feasts, then tried to hit up the blackwork class afterward, which was totally full and in a room that was so hot (it was 101 degrees that day and the air conditioner was struggling) I couldn't have stayed even if there was space. So, I checked out the A&S showcase, chatted with some people in the main hall, found my friend and congratulated her on her elevation, and then went to a class on how to draft sleeves. The teacher sort of flew quickly through all the steps, but she had a good handout with all the info in it, so at least I have that to look at.

After sleeves I sat in on a lecture about bookbinding. I was so exhausted at this point, the couch was comfy, and the room was so nice and cool, that I ended up falling asleep. I felt really bad about it, too, because I was right in the presenter's line of sight.

Finally, it was time for the polychrome embroidery class I'd been waiting for all day. We did three stitches - a basic chain stitch, a detached buttonhole stitch, and the dreaded plaited braid. We got to play with real gold thread to see how it behaved in the plaited braid stitch - sort of wiry and prone to kinking and it wants to be thread but it also wants to be ornery. I thought I had a pretty good handle on the stitch, but once I saw the teacher's stitch I saw that I'd been spacing things out way too far, so that's something I need to work on. I left directly after the embroidery class and headed home, where I showered and settled into the couch to recuperate from the day.

The loose gown and loose kirtle were a total win for comfort and awesomeness. It felt like a big comfy nightgown with a big fancy bathrobe. I was so happy to have the accessories to make it a complete look, so it didn't look like a nightgown and bathrobe, but an actual outfit. I felt very pretty, and very swooshy. I took no pictures at all that day, so I'm going to have to kit up and take some pics in the park later this week. But, here's how it looked on the mannequin when freshly finished!

I decided to take Sunday as a rest day, and the only real work I did on anything was to clean a sink of dishes. I ate some mediocre frozen breakfast sandwiches that I picked up at CostCo (will not be buying those again), and once evening rolled around, M wanted to go and get Italian food, so we rolled ourselves over to Olive Garden down the street and stuffed ourselves.

Ended the evening with the absolutely worst nosebleed I've ever had, so that was fun. It went on long enough that I felt woozy afterward, and I had so much blood on my face that I looked like I'd been punched out. It was horrific. I leaned over the bathroom sink while M went around the house and cleaned up my blood trail. Yeesh.

Today I have an OB checkup, and then the Barony's general populace meeting is this evening, so more SCA shenanigans!

Now that the craziness of sewing on an insane deadline is over, I think I'm going to go back and make a real, proper shift for my Elizabethan stuff. I know I have a length of linen somewhere that I bought for that express purpose sometime last year, I just have to find it. And once I take some pics of the outfit as it is now, I'm going to take the kirtle apart so I can finish the construction the right way.

Some garb things from this weekend - I do not have nearly enough hair to fill out a coif. It may be down to my waist, but it's baby fine and there's just not enough bulk. So, I'm going to need to get a false braid I can pin to the back of my head to help fill things out. I also think my forehead cloth was too small, even though I used measurements from an extant to make it. And checking other extant forehead cloths, the one I made is on the bigger side. Hmm. This may be modern sensibilities making it seem to small, and it probably is the right size. Either that or everyone in the 16th/17th century had tiny heads.

It was really fun working on the coif during slow work hours, so I think I'm going to pattern out an embroidered one that I can work on next. It's a small, portable project and will help me re-hone my embroidery skills, since I do want to make that blackwork waistcoat at some point.

Other Elizabethan stuff I want/ need to make -

- finish the red damask pair of bodies - they're half finished at this point, so I need to put in the boning channels and boning on the second half, bind everything, and put in the eyelets
- make the red damask petticoat that matches the stays. The petticoat will lace onto the stays, so do I need a kirtle, too? Might add a red kirtle to the list
- pre-embroidered redwork waistcoat - will be using Margo's waistcoat pattern for this, so needs a mockup, but otherwise should go quickly
- Dandelion Waistcoat - a project for sometime next year, but I'm feeling the mojo right now so might attempt to pattern it out so I can start drawing the embroidery design. I might hold off until after the birth, though, because I know I have lost a good amount of weigh during this pregnancy and my pre-pregnancy measurements may not be correct anymore.
