Came home from work to find that Tiger had put all his favorite toys in the bathtub. Silly bean.

We had a big storm roll in right at bedtime, so Tibby was upset all night long. I got up a couple of times to comfort him, and he kept trying to lead me into the bathroom so we could hide behind the toilet together. He really wants to get into the bedroom and hide under the bed, but he closed that door with his peeing on everything. M woke up around 2AM because of his wonky sleep schedule, so Tib was quiet after that because he had a human around to save him from the thunder.

Made tomato soup from scratch for the first time, and it was okay. I have been really meh in the cooking department lately, just not hitting the mark.

Did more research on mid-Victorian petticoats and found lots of references to petticoats with flounces up to the knee. There was a lot of griping about plain petticoats, too, so those are just right out (except under sheer dresses specifically.) Most reenactors/sewists like to do petticoats flounced up to the waist, but I didn't find any evidence of this in period magazines, except for one reference to Empress Eugenie wearing a muslin petticoat with a series of small flounces up to the waist. The magazine (Godey's) then says that this style is not for everyone because it's difficult and expensive to wash.  So that pretty much settled it for me that the grosgrain petticoat will have flounces from the knee down.

Flounces to the waist? That seems very 1830's and 1860's-only. Any review of a random page in a Sears Roebuck catalog will support your thesis.

So its the equivalent of SCAbominations, choices that are socially acceptable norms within an organization but are not actually documentable.
