Started patterning out the sleeve yesterday using my oh-so-clever apportioning ruler that I made, but the proportions were so strange that I ended up second guessing the whole thing. So instead, I just drafted out the sleeve straight from the book and adjusted it once home so it would fit over my bicep.
Y'all, this is one weird sleeve pattern. All of the volume ends up in this weird bag under the arm. I was convinced I had done something wrong, but it was drafted exactly as it was in the book. I turned to the Elizabethan Costuming FB page for help, and they all told me stuff I already knew, or that I'd drafted it wrong (nope, it's straight from the book) or that I had pinned it on wrong (sorry, there's nowhere else for that seam to hit, it cannot go on the back of the arm because then the sleeve head is in the armpit.)
Ninya Mikhaila responded to my post this morning with a "hah, yeah, the sleeve pattern is weird, but you didn't do it wrong! All of the volume does end up under the arm!" So I feel vindicated, and also, I hate it. It's a dumb sleeve with a weird underarm tumor, and I'm going to draft something new that isn't so bizarre.
All these sleeve shenanigans means that I lost out on an entire evening of sewing, so I have to rethink my plans - I'll draft out the new sleeve today and hopefully put it together tonight after work, finishing up the loose gown. That means I have to finish everything that's left on the kirtle tomorrow evening, and corners are definitely going to be cut - no lining, quickly tacked hem, and a zipper to close. It'll be dirty, but I can go back and redo all that after the event.
That still leaves me Friday to make my shift, which will hopefully go together quickly. I will probably bring a bit of fabric to work with me to make a coif or other hair covering so I have a completed look for the weekend.
It will definitely be a crunch, but I still think I can pull it off!

I follow a ton of groups in my variety of hobbies, which is great and I really do learn a lot from the wide range of experiences...but the comments! Half of them are like "oh you definitely did X wrong", several others want to tell you basic information that you probably mentioned in your post, a handful are answering a question you didn't ask, and there's always a couple that are like, "oh, the thing you posted looks ok but I really hate the carpet in your background, you'll never sell your house like that", when the carpet is NOT THE POINT AT ALL.
(I posted on one of my old house groups asking for a certain color inspiration, and half the people commenting were like, oh I hate that color. Okay, great! What prevented you from scrolling past?!)
