Thursday kicked off my long weekend, with the baby waking me at the crack of dawn. I puttered around the house a bit waiting for M to wake up, then headed out to Joann's and Sam's to do my shopping before he had to leave for his flight. It's gotten to be that I can't step into Sam's without spending $250, which is a real pain. Anyway, I was done in record time and back long before M's friend came to pick him up at 1. Once he was on his way it was just me and the baby. She napped for a good chunk of that afternoon, so I took the opportunity to just have some quiet alone time, which is a luxury these days.
Friday I tidied up the sewing corner in preparation for sewing shenanigans. Made myself a salad for lunch, poked at some projects, and then splurged on some Indian food from my favorite place for dinner. It was $40 for some chicken tikka masala, a couple of samosas, a mango lassi, and a dessert, which reminded me why I don't do doordash much anymore. I finished up the sleeve alterations on the Regency dress after dinner. I had just enough lace in the stash to add enough width to the new sleeves, and just enough fabric left over to add the sleeve bands, so it all worked out pretty perfectly.
Saturday turned out to be my biggest sewing day. I decided, on a whim, to alter the grosgrain petticoat. I knew deep down that I'd never be using it over the crinoline, and decided to wear it exclusively with the corded petticoat, so I need to chop off some length and take out some volume. I ended up taking out two of the skirt panels and shortening it by 3 inches. I'm much happier with it now.
Once that was done, I attacked the unfinished corded petticoat. I managed to finish all the rest of the cording that evening before I had to put it away to make dinner. Pre-marinated pork roast, mashed potatoes, and roasted carrots for dinner, all quick and easy things. The baby got her own plate of food for the first time, and she was thrilled, stuffing her face until it was full and then just holding two handfuls of food unsure of what to do next. You need to swallow first, girly, goodness.
Sunday I finished up the corded petticoat. The thing is finally finished! I have to tell you, corded petticoats are a painfully boring project. Just row after row after row of cording. Yeesh. Just need to starch the thing now, and we'll be good to go.
Then I decided to get started on the 1830s dress for the Georgian Picnic in November, so I cut out the skirt panels and the bias ruffle panels, and pinned them all together.
M came back late Sunday afternoon, sporting sushi for dinner for me, which was nice. He was absolutely determined to get me a birthday cake, so he headed back out to the store. He did secure a cake, and ice cream, but the Jeep started acting funny, so he limped it to an O'reilly's and they checked it out. Looks like the alternator and starter are on their last legs, so he's going to have to replace them next weekend. He was very frustrated about this, since he'd just done repair work on the Jeep the weekend before his trip, so he came back in A Mood. He eventually calmed down, and we ended the evening watching 3:10 to Yuma together.
I had planned to finish the 1830s skirt on Monday, but the baby was being so clingy that I couldn't put her down without a meltdown, so yeah, it didn't get done. I did manage to sew the skirt panels and the ruffle panels together, and to hem the ruffle, while she napped. I needed to get out of the house, so I left her with M and made a trip to the storage unit to see if I could find the burgundy satin that I was planning to use for the Regency tunic, and some cheap taffeta to use as hem facing for the 1830s skirt, but ended up coming up with nothing for either. Since there's a Joann's next door, I popped in there and just picked up a yard of quilting cotton for facing instead.
Tried to make fried chicken for dinner, and while it turned out fine, I don't think I'll be using that recipe again. It was pretty bland, and the canola oil added a weird almost fishy flavor to the breading. I have several pieces of marinated chicken left, so I'm going to try again tonight, with way more seasonings and with peanut oil instead.
The baby had too long of a nap that afternoon, and was so upset about being put to bed at her normal time that she had a complete meltdown. She made herself so upset that she ended up projectile vomiting in her crib, which was...intense. She got cleaned up, we changed her bedding, then we let her run around in the living room for a while to tire herself out. We all finally got to bed around midnight, my head throbbing, M too anxious to sleep. I think the baby was the only one who actually slept through the night.
Tickets for the Dickens Ball went on sale over the weekend, and I managed to get in on a group buy that knocked $25 off the price, so I'm now set for that event. Cheryl said tickets for the tea will become available in October, and official events usually pop up in September, so things are really starting to get going.
Took a look at the info for last year's Navasota Victorian weekend, and it made a point of saying that the ballroom was small and crinolines were discouraged. Ruh-roh. If it ends up being in the same venue (which I believe is likely) then I'll have to figure out a Plan B for my wardrobe. Looks like I'll need a dinner gown, a day dress, and a ballgown, at the minimum. Bustle era would be fastest, but I'm so very tempted to do natural form. Three dresses of any sort between now and February, when I already have four dress to make before December (plus corsets and accessories), is asking for a lot, though. We'll see how things shake out.

DoorDash is incredibly offensive with their fees and costs and extra charges and pennies and nickels and dimes, I really try avoid using them. Amazon Prime has partnered with GrubHub, if you're a Prime member.
