Felt very determined to have a weekend of no chores, just hobby stuff. Spent most of Saturday sewing (well, what I could with the baby and all, anyway) and managed to finish the lining for the 1830s stays, get the boning channels stitched in, and start the binding. I discovered that I didn't have any flat steel boning that was long enough for the center back/grommet area, so that's on order and will go in as soon as it arrives.
Poked a bit more at the stays on Sunday but didn't do much since I'm sort of at a standstill until the boning gets here. Ended up doing a few small chores, namely taking our collection of accumulated cardboard to the dumpster, which was long overdue, and giving the cat closet a good cleaning. They immediately confettied litter all over the place afterward, of course.
M headed out to pick up my replacement starch and came home with some white chocolate chai from Dutch Bros for me, which was lovely. I made a batch of cinnamon rolls and lit an apple cinnamon candle and tried to make it feel like fall even though it was still nearly 100 degrees outside.
Tidied up the living room a bit then settled in for a movie. HBO's been pushing Costner's new western "Horizon", so I watched that and agreed with all the reviews that he should have just made a TV show instead. Three hours and it's all character introduction and setup. There's supposed to be three more 3-hour films to complete his saga, and bad reviews be damned he is going to pour his own money into this project and finish it even if it kills him. Costuming is mediocre (why are all the native characters wearing exactly the same pristine white pants?) and all the women look entirely too modern. Not quite instagram face, but they all definitely know what Venmo is. And after three hours we don't know who any of these (many, oh so many) characters are as people, they have just been doing stuff. Anyway, it's fine. Nothing groundbreaking.
Also watched the first episode of "The Penguin", which is pretty good so far. I don't feel like I need to rewatch "The Batman" to know what's going on, which is good, and it seems entirely interested in being a mob-focused series rather than a superhero story, which I'm in favor of. Batman doesn't even make an appearance in the trailer, so who knows if he'll even show up in the series.
Didn't manage to starch the petticoat but I'm unbothered by it. I will do that sometime this week. Garlic chicken with roasted vegetables for dinner tonight since it's easy.
