The baby is 1 today! We've managed to keep her alive and healthy for an entire year!

M was supposed to make a spaghetti dinner last night (the traditional 1 year birthday meal in his family), but it depended on the dishes being clean, and guess what they absolutely were not. So we scrounged up our own individual dinners - him a pimento sandwich, me a large salad - and once the baby was in bed I attacked the dish pile. It took a good hour, but I managed to clean it all and give the kitchen a good scrub. Spaghetti will happen tonight, and hopefully not too late in the evening for the baby to partake.

Once that was done, we watched another episode of the McMahon documentary together before I finally got in a shower. We made it to bed late, and the baby was up at 4 because of course. She went back to sleep after a warm bottle.

Lots of people around us were able to catch the auroras last night, but we had too much light pollution here in the city, boo.

Tonight I'll pick up some garlic bread and a cake at the Swiss Pastry Shop (their black forest cake is my family's traditional birthday cake.) Celebratory spaghetti and cake tonight, some birthday shenanigans, all a good way to start the weekend.

I'm going to attempt a good amount of sewing this weekend. I've set myself a stretch goal of finishing the second tier of the ruffle monster's skirt. Highly ambitious, but I absolutely must make progress on that dress.

My slow period at work starts next week, which means extra hand-sewing time! I intend to bring supplies for the second mockup of the 1830s bodice so I can cut that out and sew it together on Monday. Hopefully I can fit it Monday night, and then I can bring supplies to cut out and assemble the actual bodice. No more lollygagging.
