Was able to hit the storage unit after work, where I dug out my black wool bonnet. I was extremely pleased to see that all of my historical hats were in the same bin, they had all survived the fire! So I have way more historical accessories than I thought I had, which makes me very happy/relieved. I also pulled out a suitcase, which turned out to be full of clothes? It looks like we used it when we were first moving out to hold a bunch of stuff, and we just forgot about it. I brought it home, contents and all, so we could sort through and see if there's anything worth keeping. I already found an old skirt that I can wear to bum around the house, though I'll have to replace the waist elastic as it made a very comical series of popping noises when I stretched the waistband.
M went to the range last night, and the baby went to bed early, so I had time after work to make the fischu thing for the ruffle monster dress. No pattern, just sort of made it up as I went along sort of basing the look on a sontag. I had a few cut strips for ruffles left over from the skirt, so I cut those down their length and used them to make the tiny ruffle around the edge. I realize now that I should have cut the body of the thing on the bias so it has some stretch around the bust, but it's fine for a last minute accessory. It also negates the need for the detachable collar, which is good because it showed up yesterday and was too small.
Tonight I have to make the undersleeves, and then the entire ensemble will be ready to go. Hooray!
The neighborhood with the inflatable snowmen seems to be doing things differently from Halloween - this time, one street is snowmen, one street is penguins on snowballs, and another street is inflatable white trees. By far the most numerous are the white trees. One house is standing alone, with a 10 foot tall dinosaur inflatable wearing a Santa hat.
