After all the hubbub of the stupid logs died down at work, I was once again left with little to do. I occupied myself by reading Mrs. Beaton's advice about how to host balls and dinners. I found it interesting that, as a guest at a ball, it was advised that if you couldn't subtly get the host/hostess's attention when you were about to leave, that you should just ghost. Nothing's worse that a big fuss, it seems. (Also you were expected to pay a call in the week after the ball to express your gratitude for the evening, so you'd be seeing them again anyway.) It also basically said "what happens at the ball stays at the ball," or more specifically, that introductions in the ballroom did not extend into the real world, and anyone you meet at the party you are completely free to ignore if you see them on the street because ball introductions don't count.

Very hungry and very sick when I got home. M was also feeling sick, so we ignored the kitchen and ordered pizzas for dinner. Polished off another three episodes of Commons Side Effects, which leaves us with only three more for the season, which is a bummer. It's a really good show!

Taking a half day today so I can rest. Feeling worn thin and like the exhausted pigeon meme. Hopefully I'll get a little couch nap in while the baby is down today.

What is the point of meeting someone at a ball if you then ignore them at the park?

Hmmm, Mrs. Beaton sounds interesting.
