Sep. 27th, 2023 08:34 amStarted reexamining the coif pattern that I had used for baronial college and comparing it to extants, and yeah, it actually was too small (though the forehead cloth that I thought was too small is actually the right size, go figure.) I managed to find a PDF copy of PoF4 on Scribd, so I got their free trial for 5 minutes, downloaded it, and then canceled the subscription. All the coifs in PoF are around 17 inches wide, where the one I made is 14 inches wide, so mine's definitely on the small side, which may be why the forehead cloth seemed off.
I used the book to draft out a properly sized pattern, so I'm glad I have that now. I have some linen scraps left from the weekend's accessories that I can test out the new pattern, and I meant to bring the linen and some thread to work with me so I could make the coif but eh, laziness won out and I didn't.
I went and and started sketching out some embroidery on the new coif pattern because work was slooooow. I'm about 80% finished with it, but comparing it to originals I don't think the pattern is quite dense enough yet. Needs more snails! I've decided to make two versions of this coif - one in redwork, which can be easily transported to work and done on a small hoop frame, and one in polychrome, which I'll work on a slate frame at home, mainly so I can practice my stitches.
I also came up with a silly idea for a Star Trek themed coif, with a bunch of ships embroidered on it. But I don't want to just have Federation ships on it, I want alien ships, too. So now it's my "Dominion War" coif. I'll probably start sketching that once the Snails vs. Strawberries design is done.
Gotta get back to Victorian stuff soon. Need to dig out the fabric for the Ivy Dress and start sketching out the embroidery pattern for that. I spotted it the last time I was at the storage unit, but didn't bother bringing it home. I may start drafting out the skirt this weekend, once all the baby stuff has finally been put away and the living room floor has the space for a big skirt again.
