What a terrible week this has been.

Saturday morning at 4AM, M woke up with horrible chills. When I got up for real at 8AM, I took his temp and he was running a 102 fever. He stayed in bed and slept as much as he could, while I marathon cleaned the house before his friend's arrival. The house hasn't been this clean since...well, Thanksgiving, when his family invaded.

He hauled himself out of bed and went to the airport at around 5:30, and I continued to clean until he got back around 9, at which point I was exhausted and I flopped myself into bed.

Sunday, I woke up with a sore throat and a cough. Great. M was still sleeping off his cold, and his friend was asleep on the couch ALL DAY, so I was trapped in the office with the baby all day, who was teething and angry about it, so it was a long, boring, terrible day. M and his friend finally woke up around 4pm, the bums. They went out for dinner and I stayed home.

Monday I was truly suffering. I had a fever of 100, sinus nonsense, cough, the whole nine yards. The baby was screaming from her teething and wouldn't calm down no matter what M did, until finally I just picked her up and she quieted down because Mom. So, miserable and full of snot, I held the baby for hours until she fell asleep, and then I passed out for the rest of the day. M was completely recovered at this point, just a few lingering sniffles. He and J went out for dinner again. The baby woke up again and was inconsolable because she was stuffy and couldn't suck her pacifier and breathe through her nose at the same time. Thankfully, M and J got home at a decent enough hour, and M took over baby duty so I could sleep.

I called in to work on Tuesday as I was still Warm Death. My voice was completely gone and my throat was on fire. The baby was finally doing a bit better, so I actually managed to sleep until 9. I spent most of the day sitting in bed with the baby on my lap, watching TV while M slept. M went to the pharmacy to get some things to help her stuffiness, but we discovered that infant decongestant is Not A Thing, everything says not to give to children under 12 months. The only remedy is to squirt saline up her nostrils and then suction it out with the little rubber bulb thingy. Which she absolutely loves, let me tell you. We have to rinse her sinuses before she eats so she can breathe while she's sucking on the bottle, and it is not fun for any of us.

Called in again yesterday. Lingering cough and fatigue, but not nearly as immobile as before. The baby was also in much better spirits. She spent most of the day chilling in her crib or on her playmat while I watched YouTube on my laptop on M's desk. At this point we were down to only two doses of baby Motrin a day to relieve her tooth pain, and the rest of the time she's happy as a clam. It was not a vigorous day for either of us, but it was not exactly restful, either.

I'm achy and stuffy today, but I'm here and that's, well, something. Had to dodge TV cameras on the way in to work as the Sheriff was giving an interview on the sidewalk as I was going in. He's been under fire ever since a recent death in custody that was handled very poorly (the same one I talked to CID about before), and WFAA and the Star Telegram really love going after the jail, and it's an election year (though the Sheriff is an unopposed Republican, so it's pretty much a lock since I seriously doubt either of the Democrat candidates have a chance in this town.) There were supposed to be protests today outside our building. Absolutely completely coincidentally there happens to be a city street sweeper out there washing the street with a fire hose, which is a totally normal thing to do. In the rain. Yup, totally normal. Gee, I wonder why we haven't seen any protesters yet.

M's friend is still here until Saturday. I think it will be more tolerable now that I've had to go back to work (ran out of sick time, so yeah, I'm back despite still being sick) and I'm not trapped in either the bedroom or office ALL DAY because J and M have the same damned fucked up sleep schedule and are awake all night and sleep until 4pm every damned day.

Took two covid tests, which both came back negative, so this misery is just a regular old summer cold. Blah. I'm at that point where I'm feeling very "I will never be well again, cancel all my plans, forever!" sort of dramatic ickiness. I can't wait for this to be over.
